Durable and low-maintenance

Steel resists warping, cracking, and rot, and a baked-on finish shrugs off Georgia sun and humidity. No repainting or refinishing like wood, an occasional wash is all it needs.

Dozens of colors and styles

Raised-panel, flush, and carriage-stamped profiles in a wide range of factory colors and woodgrain finishes. There is a steel door to match almost any home.

Financing + backed for life

Spread the cost with GreenSky financing through Synovus Bank. Every install carries The Metro Promise: lifetime workmanship plus the manufacturer's warranty on the door.

Choosing a Steel Door

Gauges, layers, and finishes, what to actually look at.

Steel doors range from thin builder-grade to heavy insulated. Here is what separates them, and how to pick without overpaying.

Steel gauge. Gauge measures thickness, and lower numbers are thicker steel. Builder-grade doors often use 25 to 27 gauge; a heavier 24 gauge resists dents better and feels more solid. If your door faces a basketball hoop or a busy driveway, the heavier gauge is worth it.

Single vs insulated steel. A single-layer steel door is one skin, light and inexpensive. An insulated steel door adds a polystyrene or polyurethane core for warmth, quiet, and rigidity. Even if energy is not your goal, insulated steel dents less and closes quieter. See our insulated garage doors page for R-value detail.

Finishes and color. Modern steel doors come in far more than white. Factory-baked colors, two-tone options, and convincing woodgrain laminates let you get the warmth of wood with the durability of steel and none of the upkeep. Finishes are warrantied against fading and cracking.

Panel profiles. Raised-panel is the classic look; flush and ribbed read more modern; carriage-stamped steel gives the carriage-house look at a steel price. We bring samples to the quote so you can see the profile and color on your actual house.

What we install. We install steel doors from CHI, Amarr, and Clopay across every gauge, insulation level, color, and profile. During the free in-home visit we measure and help you balance durability, insulation, and budget, then quote it in writing.

Who It's For

Steel is the practical default for a reason.

For most Atlanta homes, steel hits the sweet spot of durability, looks, and price. These are the buyers it fits best.

"I want low-maintenance and long-lasting."
The classic strength of steel

Steel does not rot, warp, or need repainting. A baked-on finish and rust-resistant coating handle Georgia weather for years with almost no upkeep.

"I want a specific color or look."
The most style choice

Steel offers the widest range of colors, profiles, and woodgrain finishes of any material. If you have a color scheme or an HOA palette to match, steel almost certainly has it.

"I want the best value."
The most door per dollar

Steel delivers durability and curb appeal at a lower cost than wood or full-view glass, and it is one of the highest-return exterior upgrades you can make on resale.

Steel Garage Doors FAQ

Questions Atlanta homeowners actually ask.

Don't see your question? Call us, we love nerding out on doors.

How long does a steel garage door last?
A quality steel door commonly lasts 20 to 30 years with minimal upkeep. The baked-on finish and rust-resistant coating handle Georgia weather well, with no rot or warping like wood. The springs and rollers wear before the door itself does, which routine maintenance handles.
What steel gauge should I choose?
Lower gauge numbers mean thicker, tougher steel. Builder-grade doors are often 25 to 27 gauge; a heavier 24 gauge resists dents better and feels more solid. If your door faces a basketball hoop, a busy driveway, or kids, the heavier gauge is worth it. We help you match gauge to your use during the quote.
Do steel doors only come in white?
Not anymore. Modern steel doors come in a wide range of factory-baked colors, two-tone options, and convincing woodgrain laminates. We bring samples to the quote so you can match your trim, brick, or HOA palette.
Is insulated steel worth it over single-layer?
Often yes. Even if energy is not your goal, insulated steel dents less, closes quieter, and feels more solid, and on an attached garage it adds real comfort. Single-layer steel is fine for a detached, unheated garage used only for parking. See our insulated doors page for detail.
Do steel doors dent easily?
A heavier-gauge, insulated steel door resists dents well; thin single-layer doors dent more easily. Many minor dents can be lived with, and on some doors a single dented panel can be replaced rather than the whole door. Choosing the right gauge up front is the best prevention.
Are your installers licensed and insured?
Yes. Every Metro installer is a W-2 Metro employee, never a subcontractor. Metro Garage Doors is licensed, bonded, and carries $2M general liability insurance. Family-owned across the Atlanta metro since 1979, and every install is backed by The Metro Promise: lifetime workmanship plus the manufacturer's warranty on the door.
